This is produced when the total bone mass diminishes, leaving the
bones brittle and fragile. It is a common disease that occurs in women after
menopause.
Symptoms
Are bones that are easily fractured, a pain around the bone or a
reduction of the bone height. This disease
occurs mainly in women since they
have 30% less bone mass. It occurs at the age of 40 and affects approximately
25% of post – menopausal of women.
Causes

- Family history
- Unhealthy lifestyle choices
- Taking certain medications
- An inability to absorb enough calcium through the intestine
- An imbalance of phosphorus and calcium
- An estrogen deficiency (hormone) in women.
- A lack of exercise.
- A lack of vitamin D which ie required to absorb calcium.
Suggested treatment.
Is a diet rich in fluorine and vitamins: C, D, E and B12; in
addition to proteins.
Dairy products such as milk, cheese and yogurt contain a lot of
calcium.
Note – Osteoporosis may cause an irreversible deformation in the
spinal column. Do not stop taking calcium after the age of 40 years especially
if you are a woman.
